I get the message LS0002 "The licensing server cannot be found..." and the software only lets me access the practice mode

This error message is displayed if the software cannot contact www.examsoftware.co.uk. Why the software cannot connect will generally be environmental, some common reasons are

  • There isn't an active internet connection.

    You can verify this by visiting the examsoftware website using your internet browser, if your browser doesn't find the site, neither will Athena. If your browser can access the site, try pinging the site by following the below procedure:

    1. Open a command prompt window (Start menu -> Run -> [type in dialog] cmd [press enter])
    2. type in (without the quotes) "ping www.examsoftware.co.uk" [press enter]
    If the ping response contains references to, "Request timed out", your network connection isn't allowing all applications to access the internet properly.


  • You are using a proxy server

    If you are using a proxy server, you need to make sure the network settings in Control Panel are set correctly. Review the configuration in Control Panel -> Java -> [button] Network Settings

  • You have a security application installed that is stopping Athena from using the internet connection

    If you are using a program that prevents internet access for applications running on your machine, please consult the documentation that came with that program to configure it to allow Athena access
