Detailed Athena Player Download Edition Installation Instructions, Including the Java Runtime
This page describes, in detail, the steps to installing the download edition of an exam package distributed using Athena Player. It walks you through the installation of the Java Runtime, then demonstrates how to install the exam itself.
NOTE: Your screen shots may vary slightly from those shown as your computer will have a different configuration, the main steps and overall flow will remain the same though.
MAC: OS X users can go straight to the Exam installation section as Java will already be installed on your machine.
Installing Java

Open Internet Explorer and enter, on the address bar, "www.java.com/download" (or click this link: http://www.java.com/dowload to open in a new window).
Once loaded, press the "Free Java Download" button.

You may be prompted to provide permission for "Internet Explorer Add-on Installer", you should press "continue".

You will then be asked to confirm you want to install Java, press "Install".

Sit tight whilst the Java installer is downloaded...

To start the installation you will need to accept the terms and conditions by pressing the "Accept" button.

The installer will ask whether you want to download the Open Office installer; you don't need to do this, it is not required by our software, but you may find the software useful, and it's free. Press the "Next" button.

Installing the Exam Package
Once Java is installed the installation of the Athena Player application with your exam package is a simple task. Your exam provider will have supplied a link for you to use to install the exam package, you simply need to click this link and the software will automatically install. The following shows what will take place once you click the link - for the purposes of this example, the examsoftware sample exam will be shown.

When you press the link to the software you may be presented with the following screen informing you that the download has been blocked. For you to install the software you must download this file so press the "Close" button and proceed to the next step to force Internet Explorer to download the file.
MAC: OS X is preconfigured to understand these files, when you click the link you will go straight to step 3.

Click the left mouse button while hovering over the bar informing you the file was blocked, you'll see a menu like that pictured below; press the "Download File..." option.

The Java Splash Screen will be displayed while the Java system starts up...

When the exam package is downloaded, you will be told that the software has been verified using it's digital signature (this ensures that the program hasn't been tampered with since it was released by us), you can press the "Run" button to start the program.
MAC: You will be prompted to confirm you trust the software rather than seeing the screen below, you need to press the "Trust" button for the software to start
