Athena Player, Version 1.34 Released

Over the last month we have been busy updating the software to incorporate a number of requests made from our clients. The changes include both bug fixes and minor functionality enhancements.

Trial exam distribution

To help potential customers see the benefit from your education package, a trial version of your exam can be distributed. The trial is a cut down version of the full exam and requires no serial for the end user, thus providing an idea package for the end user to download and exerience before purchasing the full product.

Verbose logging

A handful of end users have had problems with the licensing system where their Java installation hasn't be configured to allow Athena (or any other Java application for that matter) to access the internet. These problems can be tricky for us to resolve as they are purely environmental. To help in these situations, a verbose logging mode has been implemented to provide detailed logs to our support staff to help identify the cause.

Exam versioning allows for major and minor releases

Once an exam is released there may be a need to make small amendments to correct errors. Athena allows you to assign a major and minor version to your exam configuration, where minor version amendments can be made without the need for the end user to re-register their serial. Major version changes allow you to create complete new versions of your exam (to accommodate additional amendments to the curriculum) and ensure the new exam content is run only by those with a new serial.

Splash screen to improve loading feedback

The Java runtime can take a while to load on an older machine, that and the fact that Athena has a great deal of work to do when it first loads, can lead to the user staring at a desktop for quite a while, with no feedback. This release introduces a splash screen to gets displayed shortly after the Java runtime has completed it's work (so there's still a couple of seconds wait). The spash screen is fully customisable, along with the rest of Athena.
