Feature Details
Simple interface, comparable to that used in test centers
The application is designed to be used by people who are not necessarily computer literate. The interface is similar to the computer based testing software used in colleges and exam centers and so gives the student a gentle introduction to computer based exams.
Keyboard Accessibility
For those who have a need (or simply prefer) to use the keyboard to navigate round the application, Athena Player offers full keyboard support
Practice mode to aid learning
To help the student prepare for the final exam, the software can be run in a practice mode. In this mode the student is not timed and can spend as much time on a question as they'd like. They can choose the types of questions they'd like to focus on and so build on their weak areas.
Exam mode to simulate the real thing
To help the student prepare for the final exam, the software can be run in an exam mode. In this mode the student is timed and they must answer as many questions as dictated by the exam configuration. No help of any kind is available when running in exam mode.
Flag and Review
Both in the practice and exam modes the student is allowed to return to problematic questions by 'flagging' the question. All flagged quesions can then be reviewed at any time using the 'review' feature.
Graphical representation of results
Once the exam is completed, the student receives a breakdown, by question category, of how they have performed. The last three exam attempts are also displayed in the graph, allowing the student to track their progress
Exam report listing the questions
A full report can be previewed and printed that shows all the questions asked, the answer given by the student and the correct answer - assuming its different from the one selected by the student
Print the graph and report
Both the exam report and graph can be printed to form a permanent record of achievement
Cross platform compatibility
Athena requires Java 1.5 or above to function. Any platform that supports this version of Java is capable of running Athena. All major platforms (including Windows, Linux and MAC) support Java 1.5.
Info View
The information viewer is a tool that allows rich information to be viewed by the student. Graphics and URL's can be used allowing the author to better explain principles and guide the student
Fully customisable graphics
All graphics within the Athena Player can be customised with those that suit the establishment producing the exam material.
License Management
Each installation requires a serial. The serial is validated against our servers the first time the software is run. Once activated, the serial cannot be used on any other machines or for any other users on the client machine. The need for an internet connection is only required the first time the software is run, after that no internet connection is required.
In the event a valid serial is not supplied, the software falls back to a reduced functionality state, allowing the user to only view a handful of questions in practice mode.
This protection ensures that your intellectural property is not abused by installation at more than one site.
Trial exam distribution
To help potential customers see the benefit from your education package, a trial version of your exam can be distributed. The trial is a cut down version of the full exam and requires no serial for the end user, thus providing an idea package for the end user to download and exerience before purchasing the full product.
Encrypted data for intellectual property protection
We understand that a great deal of time and effort has been put into the creation of the exam material, so, to protect this, we use the "Advance Encryption Standard" (AES) to encrypt your data.
Exam versioning allows for major and minor releases
Once an exam is released there may be a need to make small amendments to correct errors. Athena allows you to assign a major and minor version to your exam configuration, where minor version amendments can be made without the need for the end user to re-register their serial. Major version changes allow you to create complete new versions of your exam (to accommodate additional amendments to the curriculum) and ensure the new exam content is run only by those with a new serial.
