Manual Activation of Athena Player

Where the computer that is to run Athena Player has no internet access, or cannot connect to the Examsoftware servers, a manual activation can be performed to allow full access to the product.

A manual activation involves the following steps:

  1. Download the product installer, or order the CD version.
  2. Run the installer on the computer without the internet connection. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
  3. Run Athena Player, supplying the serial number when prompted.

    4. The installer will have created a new group of menu items on the "Start Menu", under "All Programs", this is the program you should run.

    When the software requests you enter your serial do so as you would to activate under normal circumstances. When you press "ok" you will receive an error if the communication failed, this is expected otherwise a manual activation wouldn't need to be performed. After closing the error window the application will load in a restricted access mode (not allowing the exam mode to be performed), you can now exit the application

  4. Email the resulting log file to Examsoftware support

    5. The process of running Athena Player causes a log file of information to be written to the local drive, this should be located, instructions here, attached to an email and sent to support@examsoftware.co.uk.

    ! Note: If you don't know how to attach the file to an email, you may open the file in Notepad and copy and paste the contents into an email

  5. Examsoftware support will provide a license file to allow full software access

    6. The information contained in the log file - which is unique to each machine that runs Athena Player - will be used to create a 'license file'. The file will be sent to you in ZIP.

    To complete the manual activation, the contents of the ZIP should be extracted and put in the same directory in which the log file was found.

Once the license file has been put in the appropriate directory, you can run Athena Player again and, if all has been completed succesfully, you will not be prompted for a serial and you will have full access to the exam.
