Our licensing model is based on a percentage of each sale made by the exam author. We charge the author nothing for using our software or setting up their exam or business (depending on services taken), so if the author makes no sales, they get no charges, and we make no money. As you can see, our success is purely dependant on the success of our authors.
At the most basic, the relationship between examsoftware and an author involves the author taking total responsibility for all aspects of their business, specifically (but not limited to):
- Producing the exam material
- Creating the graphics set used in Athena Player
- Producing the packaging for the boxed set of the exam
- Distributing the boxed set to customer
- Website and domain hosting
- Maintaining the material and content of their website
- Managing the download systems
- Arranging for credit card payment services
- Automated distribution of serial numbers - especially important when dealing with download sales of the exams
In this situation, Examsoftware would levy a charge per activation; that is, for each end customer that successfully activates the software on their machine, a charge would be made to the exam author.
This charge provides the author with:
- A product that receives regular upgrades, and whose development path can be influenced by each and every author
- Help for the author in building their package and their systems for the sale and distribution of the package
- Second line support for customers encountering problems
With the above as a base, Examsoftware can help the author to realise their exam product, and build a professional company by taking ownership of areas of the business that the author would prefer to not get involved in. Below is a list of services that an author can choose to take:
- Domain and website hosting
- Website design and build
- Graphic design services for the exam and the packaging
- PayPal and Google Checkout integration for accepting payments and automatically generating and distributing the serial number
- Managed download distribution
- Boxed set creation and distribution
Each additional service carries a percentage charge that will be added to the base percentage and applied to each sale. This has the advantage that, no matter how many services you take out, if you sell no exams, you get no charge.
